7th grade BALANCE Project
We Used Balance as the focal point for our latest project.
CLICK HERE FOR OUR POWER POINT
BALANCE is not the only useful element we used for our project- Using LINE and SHAPE to create a Positive and Negative space.
The shape of an animal was used twice in both the positive and negative space on a 12"x18" piece of paper.
The negative space that is white was also adorned with ZENTANGLE

WELCOME BACK!!
This year I will have 6th 7th and 8th graders.
6TH
I have 1 class of 6th grade in 2 groups. AB days on 1st period and CD days 1st period
7TH
On periods 2, 3, 5 & 7 I have 7th grade everyday for 1 quarter (10 weeks). After the 10 week quarter is over I will get another group of students for those periods.
8TH
The 8th graders I have are in the same room as my 7th graders at the same time but the share the same schedule as the 6th graders. So I have groups of 8th graders in periods 2, 5 and 7 all year in 2 groups on AB and CD days.
Confused yet? its ok so am I, but we all manage to get through the year and the kids have a pretty good experience while learning a lot about art and themselves in the process.

8TH GRADE
SPLASH PAGE
Hey guys welcome to my blog- I use this only when I need people to do assignments that I cannot be here for or if I need a large group of people to see the same thing.
For the next 8th grade project we are creating painting KOI FISH. For a painting like this I would like you to get reference pictures. I thought instead of me printing for you I would giv you an intro to using Photoshop, so you can create your own reference sheet or "Splash page"
click here to see a tutorial on how to create a "Splash page" in PHOTOSHOP.
Be sure to READ THE DIRECTIONS VERY CAREFULLY. and follow each step so you can complete the splash page for a grade.
MAKE SURE YOU SAVE YOUR WORK
thanks

Middle School grading Rubric:
1. Neatness of Design (Craftsmanship)
2. Creativity
3. Effort (willingness to try)
4. Following directions
5. Use of art terms
6. Behavior- as per C.A.R.E.S.
7. Follow up statement- Descriptive paragraph attached to project using specific terms to help guide student through the development of the project.
Every project begins with teacher demonstration using all techniques and terms the students are expected to use throughout the time provided to work. Some projects will have a direction sheet which will be made available for students to follow if needed. I am a promoter of student accountability, having taught at the High School level I recognize the importance of holding one’s self to a set of standards can be invaluable in all areas of education and life.
GRADES ON THE 5’s
100%- Only accomplished when finished early and student uses time toward Extra Credit projects (Common)
95% - Completed project on time while taking extra steps toward effort and behavioral rules, following the directions and using appropriate materials. (Common)

80% - Completed project with medium amount of effort, while following the directions and using appropriate materials. (UN- Common)
75% - Completed project with low amount of effort, while following the directions and using appropriate materials. (UN- Common)

65% - Completed project with no effort to follow directions or attempt to ask for assistance. (UN- Common)
55% - Incomplete with no attempt to finish project. (UN- Common)
EFFORT IS PARAMOUNT TO SUCCESS- We are trying to develop skills and a basic understanding of art and design. 6th grade 7th grade and 8th grade will be graded using the same rubric, however 8th grade students will have a higher level of accountability.
A multiple choice final exam will be administered at the end of the year and count as a full project grade.
7TH grade art journals
7TH GRADE ART JOURNAL
In this journal I will
chronical my time in art for 10 weeks.
Each page both front and back
will have reference to-
- Projects
- Vocabulary
- Thoughts about art
- ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLES of
art
This journal is a detailed
account of the 10 weeks in 7th grade art, it will include notes
about projects. Images used for projects.
When
filling journal pages there are NO boundaries. Mess ups should be considered a
new form of expression.
However
every page you fill must have a message or link to something we did or
discussed in class.
I
will get a grade every week on this book. This Grade will be part of my Final
Average.
